Dorothy L. Haywood

Dorothy L. Haywood, 81 of Lancaster,  entered into God’s embrace on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt Joy PA with her loving family surrounding her. Born in Chester, PA she was the daughter of the late Howard and Mary Ellen Smith Taggart.

Dorothy was a graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School and a Registered Nurse, graduate of Chester County Nursing School. She was a longtime member of South Christian Street Mennonite Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to gospel music and was a strong civil right advocate.

Dorothy is Survived by two siblings Laura Grey and Howard Taggart, two daughters Pamela C. James of Lancaster and Carol A. (Haywood) Chitala married to Beston Chitala of Manheim, a son Joseph Haywood Jr., married to Desiree (Glover) Haywood of Lancaster. She is also greatly missed by her 11 grandchildren and 10 great – grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Haywood, 21 siblings, and four children: James Haywood, Michael Haywood, Bruce Haywood, and Deborah Haywood.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 9:30 am at Bethel A.M.E. church, 450 E. Strawberry Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.

All flowers and monetary gifts should be sent to Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church of Lancaster.
