Eugene M. Liveringhouse

Eugene Merle Liveringhouse, 96 passed away at 9:00 a.m. on Monday May 2, 2022 at the Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home in Hollidaysburg PA. 

Eugene was born June 5, 1925 at home in Huntingdon, PA to the late James E. and Ella V. (Huffman) Liveringhouse. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Donald E. Liveringhouse, Gerald Liveringhouse, and Harold R. Liveringhouse all of Lewistown, PA and one sister: Audette (Liveringhouse) Deavor of Florida. A niece, Gail Deavor of Florida also precedes him in death.

He married his wife Ida Jane (Wilson) Liveringhouse October 16, 1963. They lived in Lewistown PA from 1963-1984 when they moved to in Phoenix AR. They lived there until 1988, returning to Pennsylvania where they eventually settled in Hershey, PA.

He is survived by two children: Mark Eugene Liveringhouse and wife Beth of Hershey and Mrs. Teresa Isenberg and husband Jim of Huntingdon, PA. Two grandchildren: Mrs. Matthew (Amber Booher) Allen of Three Springs, PA and Mrs. Cory (Heather Booher) Scott also of Orbisonia, PA. Also: six great grandchildren, Kia, Sarah, Bella, Nathan, Emma and Nevaeh.

Gene was a World War II veteran. He was drafted into the United States Army on July 12, 1943 and served in Papua, New Guinea, in the Philippines where he was a technician fifth grade in the 131st chemical processing company until the war ended.

He worked at the American Viscos Corp in Lewistown, PA until the 1972 flood. After that he was a machinist at Overhead door also in Lewistown, Pa., for 10 years. Upon moving to Phoenix, AR., he worked as a maintenance man at the Phoenix, AR School district where he retired. After moving back to Pennsylvania, he briefly worked in maintenance at the Mifflin County School district.

He worked part time as a grounds keeper and general maintenance at the First Baptist Church of Hershey, PA where he was a member.

He and his wife moved into Traditions of Hershey retirement home in 2017. There he enjoyed playing bingo and interacting with the staff and other residents. He had a knack for winning prizes as well.

In April of 2022, he and Ida Jane moved to the Veteran’s Nursing Home in Hollidaysburg, Blair County, PA.

There will be no service and in lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in Eugene’s memory be made in support of Wounded Warriors Project or your local veteran’s organization.

Final interment will be at Juniata Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown, PA.

Gene and IdaJane were special friends in Hershey. I was so sorry to hear 😔 of Gene’s passing but know that Heaven got a great guy. Prays for IdaJane and much love ❤️ to the family.
