Gerald E. Warmkessel

Gerald “Lefty” Warmkessel, 83 of Lancaster, formerly of Allentown, passed away peacefully on Monday October 5, 2020, after a long battle with Parkinson’s.
Dad was born and raised in Allentown to the late Cunie and Dorothy (Bast) Warmkessel. He relocated our family to Lancaster in 1972.
Dad was married to the love of his life, the late Ellen (Frey), for just shy of fifty years, when she passed away in 2004.
Our Dad was a veteran of the USMC, serving from 1954 – 1962. OOHRAH!!
Dad retired from the USPS maintenance department after 25 years of service. Dad so enjoyed spending time with his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed trips with Mom, playing cards and golfing. Dads most favorite thing was going out for breakfast.
In addition to our Mom, he is preceded in death by a son William, a grandson Stephen, two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by a daughter Sharon, wife of David Presto of Mount Joy, daughter Deb, wife of Lonny Black of Mount Joy, son James and wife Doris of Lititz, daughter-in-law Marjorie Warmkessel of Millersville, sister Lucille Warmkessel of Cetronia, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren (whom he adored) and countless loyal friends. Dad will be remembered for his humor, his kindness and his big heart.
As per Dads wishes there will be no service.

A truly remarkable human being. He taught me that you don’t have to have the same blood to be family. I am forever grateful for that.

There was never a question that you were family to Dad. Love is thicker than blood.

To Deb and her extended family, I am very sorry for your loss. My Dad passed in February and he in a way reconnected me with Debbie as he often saw her at the bank. My Dad so enjoyed seeing Debbie and he would tell me about it every time he did! May God hold your Dad close and provide comfort to his grieving family. Hoping your memories ease the void left behind.
With prayers, Janet Dempster Booth

Thank you, Janet. I enjoyed talking with your parents when they did their banking. I had no idea he spoke to you about me. They were some of my favorite people. So sorry to hear about your dad. Won’t it be magnificent when we get to join them in God’s Kingdom ❤️

We are so sorry…Lefty lived across the street from us in Pheasant Ridge and we truly loved him. What a kind and good man ! He never complained about his limitations. We have missed him since he moved. You must be so proud of him. Now he is at peace with your mom.
You all are in our prayers,
Beth, Joanna ( his “brat”), and Veronica

I’m so sorry for your loss. My husband and I worked with Jerry at the Post Office. Always a smile, and positive attitude. I was fortunate to see him at CVS a few years ago. Wonderful person !

My buddy. My friend. I unfortunately didn’t have the privilege of knowing Lefty more than a few months, but wow. What an impression he made! I have never met someone so giving, so genuine, and so kind. He was one of a kind! He is deeply missed, but sweet memories of him will go on.
