Glenn Meade Straub

Glenn Meade Straub, 77, of Denver, Pennsylvania, formerly from Bowmansville, PA, passed away at Hospice and Community Care center in Mt. Joy, PA on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. He was born in Womelsdorf, PA on September 15, 1943.

Glenn graduated from Conrad Weiser High School and served his country from Aug, 1961 – Sep, 1964 as a Navy “Engineman” on a seagoing tug. After his service he worked for Parish Pressed Steel, Dana Corp, and Specialty Design for 12 years as a Tool Maker (badge #2014). Always a perfectionist, Glenn carried his eye for detail throughout the rest of his life. Glenn was an avid reader and had an extensive theological library mostly containing books about Eastern religions.

Glenn’s creative spirit was evident in many facets of his life. In the late 70s he started a business as a woodworker making wooden boxes, jewelry, and other curiosities. In 1985 he began making kaleidoscopes and explored this passion for decades. Glenn and his son Ben crafted fine wooden kaleidoscopes that were sold under the name Wood You Believe and distributed through over 130 galleries worldwide, including his own at The Artworks at Doneckers. The masterful works of art he created during this period of his life are part of Glenn’s legacy.

In retirement, Glenn was an avid hiker, photographer, and bird watcher. There were very few Berks and Lancaster area hikes that Glenn had not explored.  Glenn also worked in his later years as a writer, creating over 1000 articles on health, yoga, and wellbeing.

He is survived by his six children, Daniel Glenn Straub (Jan Straub), Benjamin James Straub (Margaret Schafer), David Allen Lesher (Michelle Lesher), Lisa Marie Straub-Steingraber, Rachael Mae Straub, and Sarah Anne Straub, and his partner Doyne Atkinson. He leaves behind loving grandchildren Mark, Samuel, Cam, Vince, Jack, Madison, Cody, and Odette.
