Gwendolyn M. McBreairty

Gwendolyn Marie McBreairty, 90, of Willow Street, died quietly on June 23, 2019, at Lancashire Hall after a valiant 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, with her loving family by her side.

Born September 2, 1928, in Caribou, Maine, Gwen was the daughter of the late Thomas Doak and Pearl (Wark) Doak.  A resident of Willow Street since 1980, she volunteered for years with the Willow Street Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

After her family, Gwen loved finding “Goodwill goodies,” chocolate, eating out, and rain.  She was patient, generous, and quick with a smile or laugh.  An animal lover (except spiders!), she often got the injured or stray critters kids found in the Connecticut neighborhood where the family lived before moving to Pennsylvania.

Gwen’s passing is greatly mourned by her husband of 71 years, Ronald McBreairty, and her two children, Sally McBreairty and Gary McBreairty.  She is also survived by two granddaughters, Kelly Thornton and Kristen Parker, and three great grandchildren.

In accordance with Gwen’s wishes, there will be no wake or funeral service.  Anyone wishing to honor her may make a donation in Gwen’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, at either 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or https://act.alz.org/donate.
