  • Geez! Here it is February 2021, and I only found out about this. I am totally at a loss for words. I didn’t know the last of the Aldan Lyster kids had passed. Jay was the Sandy Koufax of the Lyster clan. He loved animals and shared that love with his family. He was always upbeat and clever as a fox. I still quote him about the 3% margin he charged his customers “I take the what it costs me and multiply by 3.” He would ask us to guess his favorite jelly and hint that its initials were “MF”, grin knowing where your mind was going, and then let you know it was “mixed fruit.” He loved to get others to repeat (his) favorite quotes. The following was one from his eldest grandchild. He would ask her what she did at pre-school and she would say “paint and go potty”. Uncle Jay took me (with his son, my cousin Russell) to auctions in Lancaster to look at livestock, let me hunt my only time ever on his property (Russell and I both shot the same pheasant and we never found it), ride all day (getting a sore derriere) looking for a lost calf, feed swans in his pond and both calves and llamas in his shed, and ride mini-motorcycles. My memories of my uncle are full. I will miss him and regret not seeng him since my mother, his oldest sibling Dorothy, passed away. My best wishes to Aunt Carol and my cousins Sherrie, Rhonda, and Debbie.

  • Jay, Now I know that there will be Greener Pastures in Heaven! You have affected my life in horticulture since 1975. I can remember when we first met and always talked about weeds, lawns and seed. You gave me such insight into lawns and how we could make and grow better lawns for all of our customers. I always appreciated all the comments and concerns, and your big heart always when we met many times on Saturdays. You will be missed by all of your family and all the people who came into Uhler’s Seedsmen on Lancaster Avenue, in Frazer. I know we will meet again soon, and hope that you did not suffer……..Peace my friend and you will be missed by everyone you met. Rest in peace you wonderful man!

  • I’m so sorry to see you go but I know you were tired and ready. I love you Uncle Jay and don’t worry, Aunt Carole has many people that love her as you did and will carry her when she falls. I know she’s heart broken but, as you know, she’s been through a lot and always rises back up. My condolences to your girls. Rest In Peace Uncle Jay.
