John L Beck

John L. Beck passed into eternal rest on June 14, 2022 at the age of 96.  Born October 3, 1925 to Elsie (Heckel) and Lester Beck in Leacock, PA, he was one of eight siblings.  At 18, John entered the US Army, serving in World War II.  After completing his military service, John returned to Lancaster County, working as a truck driver and general laborer.  John’s real passion was animal care, always developing a deep connection with his pets and animals he worked with.  He spent several decades as a horse caretaker.

John was predeceased by his daughter, Sandy Beck.  He is survived by three sons, John Beck Jr., John Bulett, and John Nixdorff as well as three daughters, Vicki Weigand, Jennifer Weaver, and Jennifer Nixdorff.  He is also survived by his life partner, Yvonne Gantz, of Mount Joy.

In his retirement, you could find John chatting it up at a local diner, often the Country Table, Gus’s Keystone Family Restaurant, or the Mount Joy Family Restaurant.  His favorite dishes were oyster pie, liver with onions, and meatloaf.  A man of predictable tastes, he could often be found enjoying some juju hearts or peanut butter crackers.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.  He will be interred at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
