Madeline M. Yordy

Madeline M. Yordy, of Columbia, passed away on November 21, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Brock.

She was born in Ohio to Rex and Hazel Finch, but raised in Terre Hill, PA and graduated from Garden Spot High School. After graduating from Lancaster School of Nursing, she pursued a 60 year career in the field as a registered nurse.

Madeline was of the Mormon faith. Her hobbies included playing piano, watching Investigation Discovery, and having visits from family and friends.

Madeline is survived by her children Keith(Liza) Yordy of Columbia, PA, Mary(Michael) Fryberger of Elizabethtown, PA, Mark(Deanne) Yordy of San Antonio, TX, Donald Yordy of Elizabethtown, PA, Barbara Yordy of Vermont, and Joanna(Peter) Oostwouder of Debary, FL. She is also survived by grandchildren Michael, Emily, and Katey Yordy; Michael and Heather Fryberger; Devon and Derek Yordy; Christopher, Amber, and Tiffany Yordy; and Christina, Emily, Casey and Andrew Oostwouder. Several Great-grandchildren will  miss her as will her sister, Patricia(Terry) Griggs and children Penny, Wendy, Sandy,  Sean, and Robyn.

The family would like to thank Lancaster County Office of Aging, Lancaster County Home Makers, Independent Living Services, Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster, and all of the friends and support Madeline received during her illness.

A service will be held December 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at

The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1136 Sunwood Ln. Lancaster, PA 17601     

A luncheon will be served immediately afterward.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ann Barshinger Cancer Institute, Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster, and the American Cancer Society.

  • Many many memories, vacations, events and parties! Your friends & work family from years ago will never forget you!

  • Have fond memories of aunt Maddie. My mom Harriet Manion went to nursing school with aunt Maddie and became friends. One New Year’s Eve we got snowed in at her place in Wabank apartments. She made hot dogs and sauerkraut for New Year’s Day dinner. Prayers to your family.

    • So sorry for your loss. Maddie was a very kind hearted woman. She loved my dad very much and for that I am thankful and never will forget her. I will be attending on Dec 12.
