Gene Strait

Surrounded by his family, Albert Eugene (Gene) Strait of Manheim, PA died peacefully on September 14, 2024 at the age of 92. Born on August 25, 1932, he was the beloved husband of Carlene Marsh for 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Julia (Henry) Strait Gladfelter and Richard Strait, and his sister Joan.

Gene graduated from Franklin High School in Johnstown, PA in 1950, and was drafted into the US Army in February of 1953. After serving in the Korean War, he was honorably discharged and returned home to Johnstown, where he worked for the Bethlehem Steel. He later moved, with his wife and children to Landisville, PA where he worked at AMP Electronics, until retirement in 1994.

Gene was a passionate man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking in his spare time. He was also an active member of Hempfield Church of the Brethren in Manheim, PA where he served on the cemetery committee. In March 2015 Gene and Carlene moved to Pleasant View Communities in Manheim, PA.

In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by his children: Tina Mackie (David), Susan Hulme, Ryan Strait (Kathy Schick), and Scott Strait (Marian Hickey); 9 grandchildren: Christopher Mackie (Sarah Nadif), Brian Mackie (Caitlin McAllister), Michael Hulme (Tara Goss), Lindsay Hulme (Matthew Greenblatt), Meghan Hulme, Becky Rizzo (Chip), Steve Strait (Tori Salinas), Jeff Strait (Maddy Emerick), and Nick Strait; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held for the family later this year.
