Arthur E Ezard, Jr

Arthur “Art” Ezard, 97, of Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Arthur Sr. and Lauretta Van Brookhoven Ezard. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis Zehr Hummel Ezard, with whom he shared many happy years of marriage.

Art was a graduate of McCaskey High School and worked as a machinist for Armstrong World Industries for 43 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving in Korea.

A lifelong member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ, Art faithfully served the congregation as a trustee and as president of the congregation. His commitment to service extended throughout the community. He helped establish Golden Acres Troop 267 of the Boy Scouts of America and served as its Scoutmaster, providing guidance and leadership to young people in the community.

Art also served as president of the former Hempfield Optimist Club, where he led fundraising initiatives and other charitable efforts that benefited the local community. He was also a member of F&AM Lodge No. 43.

In addition to his many accomplishments, Art will be remembered for his devotion to family, his dedication to his church and community, and the joy he found in life. He especially enjoyed traveling and dancing with Phyllis, sharing adventures, laughter, and friendship wherever they went.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Linda Gainer; three sons, Timothy (Sue) Ezard, Bruce Ezard, and Steven Ezard; six grandchildren; and si great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Keith Hummel (Ellen), Kirk Hummel (Joanie), and Karla Senescu (Peter), as well as six step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Hurdle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Scott, and his brothers, Glenn Ezard and Lawrence Ezard.

Art’s life was marked by faith, service, leadership, and love. Whether serving his country, guiding young Scouts, supporting his church, helping his community, or spending time with those he loved most, he left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and generosity will be remembered by family, friends, and community members for years to come.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First Reformed United Church of Christ, 40 East Orange Street, Lancaster, on July 11 at 1pm. The family will greet friends following the service.
