Cheryl Flickinger, 77, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025. She was the loving wife of Gary Flickinger. She was born in Twin Falls, Idaho to her late parents Clarence and Barbara Lyda. Though Idaho was her birthplace, she grew up in California, a place she treasured dearly and loved to recall in stories and conversations.
In 1968, Cheryl followed in her brother’s footsteps to join the military. In an era when few women wore the uniform, Cheryl decided to serve in the United States Army. While stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she met her husband and together they later settled in Pennsylvania to raise their family. She found joy in many things-reading a good book, celebrating her grandchildren’s achievements, and spoiling her grand-dogs with endless treats and affection. She was also a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Lancaster.
She is survived by her husband Gary Flickinger and their two daughters, Tammy Arnst and her husband Scott and Cindy Fitz and her husband Brady; and her brother David Lyda and wife Darlene. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, her “sweeties”, Taylor Arnst, Ben Arnst, Alexia Fitz, and Auden Fitz. She was preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Randy Lyda.
A private service for close family and friends will be held. Those wishing to honor Cheryl’s memory may make a donation to the VA Lebanon Hospital or Pet Pantry of Lancaster County.
