Donna Zimmerman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2026. She leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family. Born on March 10, 1945, in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Donna was the daughter of Galen "Red" Callihan and Emma "Beatie" Shirker Callihan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved grandson Jared Capwell.
Donna is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Ken Zimmerman, whom she married on February 20, 1965. They shared a beautiful marriage and two daughters, Cindi Landis, wife of Mike Landis, and Amy Luginbuhl, wife of Kory Luginbuhl. Donna was the proud grandmother of Jared, Shanna, Josh and his wife Celia, Austin and his fiancée Anna, and great-grandmother of Alex, Alana, Luci, and Vera. She is also survived by her brother, Ron “Ronnie” Callihan.
A graduate of Ephrata High School’s Class of 1963, Donna began her banking career immediately after high school and continued until she retired as a customer service agent at Fulton Bank. She was known for her dedication and care for her clients and as a co-worker everyone enjoyed working with.
Donna's heart was generous, and she enjoyed helping people in need. She volunteered at the Ephrata Hospital, knitted countless hats for local schools and hospitals, and always thought of the less fortunate at holidays. She was deeply involved with Relay for Life for 20 years. Her baking was legendary among her family and friends, especially her black bottom cupcakes and pumpkin bread. Each year, Donna looked forward to the holiday and winter season so she could display her large and ever-growing snowman collection. She never said no to a travel adventure and particularly cherished her time at the beach and the cabin in the mountains. She was her grandchildren's most enthusiastic supporter at their sports games, plays, and music recitals, never missing an event.
Donna's life was enriched by the companionship of her dear friends, affectionately known as The Golden Girls: June, Sharon, and Bonnie. Her close friend Margie also held a special place in her heart. Together, they shared countless memories and supported each other through life's many challenges and joys. She always looked forward to her 9:45 a.m. Sunday call with her dear brother Ronnie.
Known for her kindness and versatility, Donna approached life with grace and resilience. She always persevered through any hardship that life presented her. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute staff and Dr. Bustamante for their compassionate care during her battle with ovarian cancer.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Historic Metzler Homestead venue, 470 W. Metzler Road, Ephrata, PA 17522.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Donna's memory to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, honoring her legacy of giving and support for meaningful causes.
