Harry Robert “Bob” Schwartz, 76, of Manheim, Pa. passed away on August 9, after a 2-1/2 year struggle with lung cancer.
He was the son of William C. Schwartz, Sr and Charlotte G. (Hollenbach) Schwartz and the husband of Maryanne (Snyder)Schwartz with whom he shared 51 years of marriage as of August 5 and his much-loved child, Harry R. Schwartz, Jr, married to Jenny Cheng, Vancouver, BC.
Bob grew up working at his family’s nursery, and graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1967. He attended Hagerstown Jr College and served in the U.S Army, returning to the family nursery after his discharge. Bob’s true passion was flying. He was a fixed wing pilot and enjoyed making short trips to nearby states. After his first ride in a hot air balloon, he immediately started training as a pilot, eventually receiving his commercial license, and he and his wife enjoyed traveling up and down the eastern seaboard taking part in balloon festivals and competitions.
Shortly after the birth of his son, he and his wife purchased a small Christmas tree farm in Manheim, PA (Frog Hollow Evergreens) and operated it for almost 40 years. The months of November and December were a joyous time on the farm as old and new customers returned to find their tree each year.
We wish to thank Bob’s friends at the 521 Club and the morning Zoom call, Maryanne’s sister, Tina Sams, his niece, Molly Sams, Arvada CO., the “Green Team” at ABBCI, and the staff at Hospice and Community Care as well as many others for their support before and through his illness.
A private memorial gathering will be held at a later time.
