Hilda Lee Angelo Gettz

She was affectionately known as Mama Lee; to her family she was simply Mom. At almost 98 years of age, she went to be in God’s hands on March 31 at Hospice and Community Care in Mt Joy.

Mom was born in difficult financial times in June of 1928. When she was young, her mother arranged for her to live with relatives near Crisfield, MD. Being in the poor rural south, she had an 8th grade education, and she worked simple jobs. Her career was being a loving and amazing mother. She was determined to give her children the security and sense of belonging that she never had growing up, and she cherished her family more than anything in the world.

Growing up poor, she experienced food insecurity. Her experiences in her early life manifested in lifelong habits. Mom felt the need to feed everyone that came through her door. We remember that no matter what meal we ever had Mom made sure that no one left her table hungry, and there were ALWAYS leftovers!

We were very blessed to have had a devoted Mom who had 3 sons: Frank (Deb, grandchildren Kurt, Dana, and Christopher), Randy (Minda, grandchildren Justin and Krysten), Wayne (Zita). Mom was predeceased by her husband Frank, son Randy, and her grandson Christopher. Mom was also predeceased by a cousin, Nick (Deb) Szkola, whom she also raised and treated as a son.

Mom married Frank (Francis Anthony Angelo) twice: first for 22 years, and then after 27 years and a few mistakes, a second time.

Mom loved God, the most important lesson Mom taught us was to love, trust and have a relationship with God. We were truly blessed.

Friends are invited to celebrate Mom’s life at 11:00AM on May 9th at Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster, 328 W. Orange St. in Lancaster. Visitation at 10:00, reception to follow.
