James Charles Sr.

James R. Charles, 79, of Leola, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 4, 2025. He was the loving husband of the late Beverley R. Charles.

Born in Lancaster, PA, James was the son of the late Amos and Emma Charles. He was a graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School.

James was a member of Calvary Church of Lancaster, and he found great joy in singing with the Gap Male Chorus and the church choir.

He was the owner of the family business, Robert L. Myers Inc., where he faithfully served as shop manager and mechanic for over 40 years. James was known for his strong mechanical ability, honesty, and dedication to helping others. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, and spending time at the cabin, where many cherished memories were made with family and friends.

James is survived by his children; James Charles Jr., husband of Jacinta, of Mountville, Jonathan Charles, husband of Christine, of Lititz; Joel Charles, of Millsboro, DE; Jennifer Charles, of Leola. He adored his five grandchildren; Kellie, Ryan, Kyle, Khloe, and Kamden, who brought immense joy to his life.

James is also survived by his ten siblings: Kenneth (Marianne), Luke (Sue), Rachel Kreider (Carl, deceased), Paul (Nancy), Grace Sensenig (Noah), Mark (Janice), Faith Stauffer (Luke), Michael (Carolyn), Larry (Marilyn), and Ruth Martin (Barry).

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Life service in the chapel of Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Rd., Lancaster, PA, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 3:00 PM, with Rev. Doug Winne officiating. Friends may greet the family from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in James’s memory to the Gap Male Chorus or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
