Luis Lopez, 71, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026. Born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, he was the beloved son of the late Eleuterio Lopez and Virginia Torres.
Luis was a hardworking and devoted family man who retired from Buck Iron Foundry in 2001 after many years of dedicated work. After long days of work, he enjoyed sitting down to read the newspaper and listen to the local news. Luis also enjoyed working on cars. He was known for his kind heart, quiet strength, and deep love for his family.
Luis is survived by his loving wife, Florentina Lopez Rodriguez; his eight brothers and sisters; and his children: Auria Vafias and her husband, Tom Vafias; Angela Medina and her husband, Luis Medina; Angelica DeJesus; Pedro DeJesus; Daniel Rodriguez; and Aida Rodriguez. He also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he adored deeply.
Luis had a special love for family gatherings and traditions. In his younger years, he would spend entire nights in the yard roasting pigs for family and friends, creating memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him. He especially loved spoiling the babies in the family and treasured every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
For the past eight years, Luis battled Alzheimer’s disease with quiet courage. Even as his vision and memory faded, there were moments when he would recognize the people he loved most. Though words were not always possible, his eyes said everything — full of love, warmth, and recognition that his family will never forget.
Luis will be remembered as a great father, a loving husband, and a truly kind soul whose love for his family never faded. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial ceremony will be held at a later date for family and friends to honor Luis and celebrate his life.
