Lynn Pomeroy Marsh, 81, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Masonic Homes Hospice Center in the early morning hours of April 8.
Born on April 28, 1944, in Utica, New York, Lynn was the daughter of the late Charles and Miriam Pomeroy. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 60 years, John “Chauncey” Marsh; her sister, Susan Smith; and her brother, Donald “Butch” Pomeroy.
Lynn is survived by her loving family, including her brothers, Charles Pomeroy and Andrew Pomeroy; her two sons, John Marsh (Jan) and Ryan Marsh (Robyn); five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Lynn was a proud graduate of Verona-Sherrill High School, Class of 1962. She went on to attend Ohio University, where she earned her degree in English and teaching credentials in 1966. She later obtained her Master’s Degree as a Reading Specialist from West Chester University.
Lynn devoted more than 35 years to a career in education, beginning in Apple Valley, California, in the late 1960s. After returning to the East Coast, she continued teaching at Twin Valley Middle/High School before moving to Elizabethtown in 1986, where she spent many years shaping young minds and inspiring a love of reading and learning.
A passionate and innovative educator, Lynn was always at the forefront of best practices for students. In 1988, she collaborated with a colleague to develop the interdisciplinary course Literature and the Arts, reflecting her deep belief in the power of creativity and expression in education.
Beyond the classroom, Lynn was a gifted artist who enjoyed working in many mediums, including oil painting, textured and layered compositions, clay, and especially watercolor, her favorite.
Lynn lived her life fully and with purpose, inspiring her children and grandchildren to live without fear and to center their lives in love. She was deeply committed to her community, volunteering her time to serve meals to those in need in Lancaster, organizing breast cancer awareness events, and leading local book clubs.
Known for her gentle and caring nature, Lynn had a genuine curiosity about others. She cherished hearing about the lives and adventures of those around her and always made time for her friends and loved ones. She had a unique gift for making people feel seen, valued, and important.
People mattered deeply to Lynn—and she mattered deeply to all who knew her. She will be missed always and remembered with great love.
There will be a visitation, followed by a Celebration of Life for both Lynn and John (Chauncey) Marsh on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church U.C.C., in Elizabethtown.
