Matthew Richard Howard passed away at his home on October 11, 2025. He was born on July 26, 1982, in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was a son, brother, nephew, uncle, and a friend. He carried all of these roles with deep love, loyalty, and pride.
Matt was a military brat. He grew up abroad running around air force bases, riding bikes, skate boarding, and playing ice hockey. Matt was wildly athletic and loved playing sports. After returning to Pennsylvania, he graduated from Warwick High School in Lititz.
A sharp mind with a passion for opportunity, Matthew developed an early interest in the stock market and was proud to be an early investor in Facebook and Apple. He often dreamed of one day investing in Warren Buffett’s “baby, ” Berkshire Hathaway. His mornings began with DMX’s Ruff Ryders’ Anthem a perfect reflection of his drive and determination to face each day with energy and heart.
Matthew loved to lift people up. He had a natural gift for storytelling and was filled with big dreams.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Pogue, and his stepfather, Billy Joe Pogue, of Lancaster, PA; his father, Joseph A. Howard, and stepmother, Sharon Howard, of Louisville, KY; and his sisters, Jacqui Hershberger and Jillian Mandros, his stepsister, Jennie Pabon; and his stepbrother, Jason Pogue. He also leaves behind many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Matt.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Frederick “Fred” M. McEachern, Theresa Brennan McEachern, Dorothy Whitworth Howard, and Jesse M. Howard III. As well as his uncles John M. Howard and Tim “TJ” McEachern, and his beloved dog Teddy.
Friends and family will come together to celebrate Matthew’s life at 2pm on Sunday October 26th at 315 N. Prince St Lancaster Pa 17603.
