Mattie Mae Brian

September 26, 1942 — September 6, 2025

Lancaster

Mattie M. Brian, 82, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025. Born and raised in Lancaster, Mattie spent her entire life in the community she loved, surrounded by family, friends, and neighbors who cherished her deeply.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Carl Brian, and three of her children, Connie Treadway (David Laychak), Julie (Tom) Murray, and Cory (Heather) Brian. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughters Mary Ann Herman, Dottie Mae Griffith, and Kimberly Miller.

Mattie was blessed with a large and loving family, with 10 siblings. She is survived by Ann, Carol, Myrtle, Ruth, Jeannie and Shirlene, and was preceded in death by Amos, Oliver, Rosella and Kass. She had 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Her family was her greatest joy, and her door was always open to anyone who needed a meal, a laugh, a place to stay, or simply a shoulder to lean on.

Mattie lived life with an abundance of kindness, generosity, and laughter. She loved playing bingo and card games at the kitchen table, enjoyed painting online, and kept her hummingbird feeder full so she could watch them from her back patio. In her younger years, she loved dancing and music as well.

Mattie worked several jobs over the years, but her favorite was her time as a school bus driver.

Throughout her life, she never met a stranger, helping people whenever she saw a need. She had a fun and mischievous streak as well, often pulling lighthearted pranks on her family - a trait she proudly passed on to her children.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Calvin G. High Pavilion in Greenfield Park at William Penn Way & Colonial Village Lane, in Lancaster, PA.
