Robert Zankey

Robert Zankey, 71, of Lancaster, PA died at home on October 26, 2025.

Bob was born, raised, and spent most of his life in Lancaster. He attended Lancaster Catholic and McCaskey High Schools. In addition to running his own landscaping and tree business, he worked at various places over the years including S C Poultry Services, Union Camp, Keystone Acoustics, Zankey's painting, and the Lancaster Host golf course.

Bob was outgoing and friendly, striking up conversations with anyone he met and making many friends along the way. Kind, generous, and hard-working, he would give you the shirt off his back.

"Zankey," as many friends called him, was athletic and an avid outdoorsman. In his younger years he played football, baseball, pool, and was on several bowling leagues. He loved telling stories about his time playing semi-pro football for the York Lions. He was passionate about fishing and hunting, spending most of his free time out in the woods and along his favorite fishing streams. He passed his love of the outdoors onto his children, who especially cherish memories of summers spent together in Montana fishing and camping.

Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert H. Zankey. He is survived by his mother, Catherine Zankey, née Blasko; his daughter Amber (Amy) Zankey and son-in-law Derek Sweinhart; son Joseph Zankey, daughter-in-law Elmira, and four grandchildren Mia, Arina, Joshua, and Nathaniel; brothers Joseph and Jeffrey Zankey; sister Cindy Zankey Neff and brother-in-law Robert Neff; and two nieces and two nephews.

A gathering of close family will scatter his ashes, along with those of his beloved dog Mo, at their favorite duck hunting spot.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family encourages everyone to learn the early signs of stroke and to act F.A.S.T.
