  • I was very sad to hear that Tom had passed. He made an impact on my life as I got to know him through the dobro meetings in PA. He got me excited about the dobro and his experiments/quests to help perfect the instrument and playing. His passion and knowledge of the history of the dobro was unsurpassed. I will miss sitting with him and discussing the nuances of the history and playing techniques.
He kindness and passion will not be forgotten.

  • We will miss Tom very much. His companionship, vast knowledge, and wit. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time.

  • Tom “Slideman” was one of the most energetic people I know. He was always involved in a new challenging project.. whether it be engraving Dobro sound plates, or? He took this fledgling Dobro player under his wing and was always encouraging me to go ‘one step further.’ Thanks to Tom I am in possession of a vintage 7-string Dobro that he secured for me and shipped to Utah. He was one of a kind and will be truly missed.

  • Dear Catherine, Kathleen and family…..
We are deeply saddened to hear about Tom’s passing and are struggling to believe it.
He was a good friend to all the people that knew him and was admired by all the folks that attended our Dobro Meetings and the World of Bluegrass Music.
We considered “Slideman” one of our best friends and a gentleman and a gentle man.
    Sincerely,
    Tom and Jan Engleman
