Wilbur Hecht “Junie” Haas

Wilbur Hecht (Junie) Haas, age 81, entered into his eternal rest, (in the arms of his wife), on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at 12:10 AM, at his residence in Marietta, PA from severe leukemia.

He was born on a very cold day, January 17, 1934, with all the energy of 3 boys, in (Irishtown) Marietta, PA. He was the loving son of the late Wilbur Nevin Haas and Edna Bear Hecht Haas. He was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marietta, PA. He attended East Donegal High School, Maytown, PA. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Korea as a Sgt. for 2 years and 4 years in the National Guard. He retired in 1989 from the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot, after 45 years as a Property Disposal and Reutilization Specialist and worked part-time, until 2014, at the Columbia-Marietta Water Co., and the Marietta Sewer Authority. He was a member of Hershey Antique Automobile Club, (a former Commodore) of Lakeview Yacht Club, Long Level, Marietta Susquehanna Beneficial Club, Columbia Elks, Marietta American Legion, VFW, (he was one of the founders of) Marietta Boat Club. His passions were antique cars, cars, cars, hunting, boating, water skiing, swimming, and dancing. He traveled extensively w/his wife, all over the USA, Canada, Western Rockies, Alaska, all of the Caribbean and some of South America, Mexico, Ireland, all the British Isles and all of Western Europe (including where his ancestors came from, Scotland and Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany).

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lois Elder Haas, of 61 years. He was the brother of the late Richard Haas and his late sister, Jeannette Haas Armold. His niece, Melissa Haas Armold Nassar of Mechanicsburg, PA and a nephew, Mark Elder Kibler of Maricopa, AZ, survive Wilbur. All his life he was a dog lover and is survived by two Min. Schnauzers (Molly and Snowflake) and a Pomeranian (Taffy), who were also at his side as Wilbur breathed his last breath.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date by the family.

The true angels at his side these last few months were the ever-caring LPN’S and nurses, social worker, Linda and the hospice pastor, Ben. His other caring angels were Dr. Lehman and nurses at Susquehanna Medical, Marietta. Another special angel came to both our aid the night Wilbur passed away. Helping in easing his passing, nurse, friend, neighbor, Karen Baker Sullivan, may I say she has been helping and keeping an eye on us for years. We also could not have survived without the two angels who live beside us; they do work for us, and are also an eagle eye for watching over us, Rae Ann and her son Thomas Schatz. What wonderful parents Karen and Rae Ann must have had. We also could not have gotten through Wilbur’s serious illness, without the help and support of Kim Trace, Joel Richards, and our niece, Melissa Nassar, these three are also our evercaring angels. God Bless Each One Of You. We are eternally grateful to all these dedicated and devoted people. In Wilbur’s memory, if you wish, please mail your contribution to: Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., P. O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.

Lois: We were saddened seeing Junies obit. I’ve know him since I was 10. I remember being on one of the rafts the men built and Junie had a hard boiled egg. He took the yolk out of the egg, threw it in the river and started singing the Pepsodent gingle “you’ll wonder where the yellow went.”
I haven’t seen him in a while but I didn’t know he was sick.
We’re so sorry.
